The WorldCover Conference hosted by the European Space Agency in March 2017 brought together Land Cover users, scientists, students as well as representatives from National, European and International Space Agencies, Value Adding Industries, Laboratories and Universities.
The main objectives of the WorldCover conference were to evaluate the user requirements for land cover mapping across different user groups. To pave the way for the development of a Sustainable Operational System for Land Cover Classifications and to follow on the previous successful experiences: IGBP-DISCover, GLC-2000, GlobCover 2005, GlobCover 2009, GlobeLand30, and CCI Land Cover. Further, the conference aimed at producing a set of recommendations for the funding and implementation agencies as well as to establish a set of Research and Development activities to be carried out to meet the user requirements.
